The NJK's commemorative concert, performed to a capacity audience at the St. Marien church in Pirna on January 26, combined music by forgotten music by persecuted Jewish composers with addresses by Ministerpräsident Michael Kretschmer (the Saxon head of State), Nizar Amer (Ministerial Councelor from the Israeli Embassy in Berlin), and Dr. Markus Pieper (managing director of the Foundation of Saxon Memorial Sites), among others. Here are two enthusiastic articles covering the event, from the Sächsische Zeitung and the Dresdner Neueste Nachrichten.

Dr. Thomas Feist, special representative of the Saxon government for Jewish Life, has issued the press release below, on the special commemorative concert being given by the New Jewish Chamber Philharmonic (NJK) in Pirna this Sunday. The event will feature an address by Ministerpräsident Michael Kretschmer, the head of the Saxon government, as well as a number of further dignitaries. Michael Hurshell and the NJK will perform works by Tansman, Schreker, Lavry, Rozsa, Korngold and Mendelssohn. This special event marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

In November 2024, the orchestra continued its series of Young People's concerts at the Marie-Curie-Gymnasium in Dresden. The capacity audience at the lovely Aula was full of questions, and - after hearing music by Schreker and Lavry - engaged in a lively discussion with artistic director Michael Hurshell.

The gorgeously restored Görlitz synagogue, dramatically lit, put the audience in the right mood for the revived forgotten works by Seiber, Goldschmidt and others.
